Mask on? Mask off?

LOS ANGELES – In a world of misinformation people find it harder and harder to know which information to heed and which to toss.

One such issue- The face mask.

Mask on? Mask off?

Billions around the globe asking the same question.

A plight aided by a confused WHO and governments everywhere.

The BBC, widely known for rail riding, currently sides with a no-mask policy.

Michelle Roberts, Health editor, BBC, writes-

“They(masks) can be contaminated by other people’s coughs and sneezes…”

This raises the very valid question in many people’s mind; Isn’t it better to get COVID on a mask, than in my lungs?

Roberts goes on to quote Dr. Nabarro:

“...masks might need to be worn by non-medical workers who are in frequent contact with others..

The confusion continues in another BBC article on the WHO covered by Laura Foster. “…the World Health Organization which is made up of thousands of doctors public health specialists and scientists from around the world. looks at all the evidence on this subject regularly.

It says: Healthy people do not need to wear a mask when they go about their daily business…”

A very shocking proclamation when faced with the reality that most people with COVID-19 show no signs(asymptomatic). Meaning, aside from those tested, no one can be sure if they have COVID or don’t.

Although the WHO is against public mask wearing. Countries around the globe do not agree as more and more governments and businesses join the mask-wagon.

In Kenya-

Supermarkets, malls and hardware shops in Eldoret town have started to implement the government’s directive that shoppers wear facemasks before entry into the business premises in an effort to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday shoppers used to walking in and out of the supermarkets and malls at will were shocked on Wednesday when those without the facemasks were turned away or forced to acquire one at a fee at the entrances.

-Kenya News Agency(KNA), Uasin Gishu.

Why then the confusion from the international collective of medical “professionals” who’s commonality seems to be a love for indecisive words like maybe and unsure.

Post, General Surgeon anti-mask tweet. The United States has since done a 180 on their timid masking approach.

“…advising the use of simple cloth face coverings…”

CDC.gov: “It is critical to emphasize that maintaining 6-feet social distancing remains important to slowing the spread of the virus.  CDC is additionally advising the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.  Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.

“New Yorkers must wear masks when unable to socially distance, Gov. Cuomo says” reads the CNN article by Elizabeth Joespeh, and Eric Levenson. 15-April-2020.

It goes on to say that Gov. Cuomo is “considering a civil penalty for those who break the rule”.

Jeremy Howard for The Guardian, writes-

Research supported by Nobel prize-winning virologist Harold Varmus tells us that placing a layer of cloth in front of a person’s face stops 99% of the droplets.

So, the science is clear. We do not know when we are sick. If we are sick, then when we speak we are projecting virus-laden droplets into the air. Wearing a simple cloth mask stops those droplets in their tracks.”

One thing we can all know for fact is that masks, while not guaranteed to protect against COVID, Do in fact filter the air we breathe, and are therefore a small safety measure one can take.

Since governments and medical “professionals” can’t seem to agree. The people have, and the general consensuses is-

When faced with the decision to wear or not to wear. Wearing a mask is the smartest, safest choice.
